Dr Padiar Memorial Homoeopathic Medical College Ernakulam

Dr. Padiar Memorial Homoeopathic Medical College Ernakulam is located on a hill near the famous Devi Temple at Chottanikkara in Kerala State, close to Ernakulam. The College was founded by two distinguished Homoeo Doctors, Dr. Sreenivasa Padiar and Dr. Madhava Padiar, sons of Sri. Krishna Padiar.

The seeds of this citadel of learning of Homoeopathic Medical Science were sown in the year 1920 by Dr. Sreenivasa Padiar LM & S (Homoeo) and Dr. Madhava Padiar (M & S), sons of Sri. Krishna Padiar, were popular private medical practitioner in Homoeopathy, who established two institutions namely “ROYAL COLLEGE OF HOMOEOPATHIC PHYSICANS” and “THE FREE TO THE POOR DISPENSARY” at Market Road, in the heart of Cochin City as early as in 1920, to propagate Homoeopathic system of Medicine in this part of the country.

Given the increase in the number of patients approaching the Homoeopathic system of treatment with confidence, as well as the need to spread knowledge of this unique system, they established a training center for true aspirants of the science of Homoeopathy. In the first batch, which began in 1920, there were only three students. This was the humble beginning of the current premier, pioneering Homoeopathic Medical College in South India, with a continuous recorded history. Founded in 1920, this is India’s second oldest Homoeopathic Medical College.

From 1976 to the present, this Institution is managed by a Board of Trustees appointed by His Holiness Madathipathi of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi, the religious head of the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmin Community. The Paramadhikari of this Institution is H.H.Shrimad Samyamindra Thirtha Swamiji, Madathipathi of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan.

Up until 1996, the College offered regular Homoeopathy classes and issued licenses to practice under the name LRCHP (Licentiate of Royal College of Homoeopathic Physicians). It was incorporated into the Second Schedule Rule (13) of the National Commission For Homeopathy (NCH) New Delhi Act of 1973.
